Trees sustain life on earth – they’re vital for both people and planet. We must urgently plant more trees. By planting native trees in partnership with local communities, you can help mitigate the devastating effects of the climate crisis and transform lives.

Situation

The climate crisis threatens us all and it is worsening at an alarming rate. But trees capture carbon while preventing flooding and soil erosion. Forests support ecosystems and biodiversity to flourish. And planting trees with communities improves livelihoods, food security and wellbeing, increasing resilience to the effects of climate change. By planting the right tree in the right place through local communities we can help mitigate the climate crisis while transforming lives.

Solution

It’s not enough to plant trees, we need to ensure they survive. Our holistic approach empowers communities at the forefront of the climate crisis to plant trees that thrive in their landscape while providing vital community resources. Through training we support our partners to care for and monitor their trees and to establish tree nurseries. Local communities then become environmental stewards for generations to come, creating a lasting impact for them and the planet.

• Plant trees and restore forests through local communities in order to restore our ecosystems, reverse environmental damage, protect fragile ecosystems and help combat the devastating effects of the climate crisis.
• Empower local communities with training and resources that support them to plant trees, establish nurseries and become stewards of their forests, ensuring that forests are restored and protected and can flourish for generations.
• Transform lives by creating sustainable livelihoods, food security and access to vital resources, like medicine.
• Transform lives by training and empowering women to hold leadership positions in forest and natural resource management initiatives.
• Building on our 100 years of tree planting experience, we will strengthen our support for community led tree planting around the world.

Understanding the Target

The scope for community led tree planting is far greater than the target of this campaign. Any generous donations above the target will only increase our impact for local communities. If we raise more or less funds we can increase or decrease our work proportionally.

In partnership with local communities we will: • Increase tree cover and restore hectares of degraded landscapes with native species. • Transform lives through sustainable livelihoods and food security. • Ensure the right tree is planted in the right place for benefit of people and planet. • Reduce soil and land degradation while increasing biodiversity. • Help mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.

Reporting

We will: • Report on the number of trees planted and hectares restored. • Report on the number of people trained and communities supported. • Measure the survival rate of trees planted. • Share stories and photos about the impact of our projects. • Facilitate spaces for feedback from project participants and adjust our projects accordingly.
